Apple shifts iPhone production to India

Apple is moving production of its iPhone 14 to India, as it diversifies away from China.

The company makes most of its phones in China but has shifted some production outside the country as tensions rise between Washington and Beijing, according to reports by the BBC.

Businesses have also been affected by China’s ‘zero-Covid’ policies which have led to widespread lockdowns and disruptions.

The company launched the iPhone14 at an event earlier this month, emphasising safety upgrades rather than new technical specifications.

India is the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer after China. Apple currently has a market share of four per cent in India.

Analysts at J P Morgan expect Apple to move five percent of iPhone production from late 2022 to India.

They have also predicted that Apple could make 25 percent of all iPhones in India by 2025.
