Amazon rolls out 'same-day' delivery service in US

Amazon has launched a ‘same-day’ delivery service from local retailers in the US through the Amazon app or Amazon.com.

Dubbed ‘Buy With Prime’, the retail giant’s new offering spans fashion items to homeware and is currently available in select ZIP codes in more than 10 US cities including Washington D.C., Miami, and Chicago.

Amazon sends orders to participating stores, the retail store associate fulfils it from inventory in the store, and an Amazon delivery partner then picks up the order from the retailer and delivers it to customers as soon as that same day, Amazon said.

Some stores also offer the option to buy online and pick up in store.

The service is free for US Prime members who spend $25 or more on qualifying items or $2.99 for those who spend below the $25 threshold.

Sarah Mathew, director of Amazon Delivery Experience, commented: “We are excited to see this new model come to life and look forward to adding more brands, stores, and locations to the programme.”

Amazon says it plans to expand the new service to additional cities across the US in the coming months.
