Uber shakes up cloud strategy in new deal

Uber is transforming its cloud strategy after signing a seven year deal with Oracle.

The ride sharing company will migrate some of its workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), as part of its efforts to modernise its infrastructure and focus on its core strengths.

Under the terms of the partnership, Oracle will become a global Uber for business client and will use Uber for employee travel around the world. The two companies will also collaborate on other retail and delivery projects such as last mile logistics.

Commenting on the news Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive of Uber, said: “Uber is revolutionising the way people, products, and services move across continents and through cities.

He added: “To deliver on that promise for customers while building value for shareholders, we needed a cloud provider that will help us maximize innovation while reducing our overall infrastructure costs.”

Uber Eats recently announced a trial delivery pair up with health & beauty retailer Boots. The new initiative will initially be trialled at 14 Boots stores including outlets on London’s Oxford Street, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, and Market Street, Manchester.
