UK consumers are spending around 4 hours a day on mobile apps, according to a report by App Annie.
The report found a significant rise in consumer UK mobile app usage since 2019, when it averaged just three hours a day.
However, the UK only placed number 12 worldwide in terms of online mobile app usage per person.
Brazil nabbed the top spot in terms of the number of hours which consumers are spending on mobile daily, followed by Indonesia and South Korea.
The rest of the top ten included Mexico, India, Japan, Turkey, Singapore, and Canada, respectively.
UK consumers have also been spending significantly more money on mobile applications according to the report, spending $4.16 billion in 2021, up from $2.46 billion in 2019.
However, this pales in comparison to Chinese consumer’s overall mobile app spending, which App Annie measured at $56.76 billion for 2021.
Japanese and US consumers also spent big on mobile apps in 2021 according to the report, spending $43.04 billion and $20.75 billion, respectively.
Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Egypt were among the fastest growing markets for mobile app downloads with year-on-year growth of 25 per cent, 25 per cent, 25 per cent, 20 per cent, 15 per cent, and 15 per cent, respectively.
Overall, the mobile ecosystem is healthier than ever according to App Annie’s report. Publishers released 2 million new apps and games in 2021, bringing the total of apps and games ever released on iOS and Google Play to over 21 million.
Google Play accounted for 77 per cent of all app and games releases in 2021 according to App Annie.
Across both iOS and Google Play, games represented 15 per cent of all new releases in 2021.
