UK competition watchdog investigates Microsoft-Nuance merger

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced it is investigating an anticipated acquisition by Microsoft of Nuance Communications.

The UK watchdog said that it is considering whether it is the case that if the transaction were to take place that it would result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

National Technology News has approached both companies for comment.
