‘Three-quarters of Brits' believe connectivity is crucial for growth

Over three-quarters - 76 per cent - of British workers think excellent connectivity is crucial for economic growth, according to new research from Cisco.

The networking giant’s research surveyed over 59,796 workers across 30 markets.

The vast majority - 88 per cent - of respondents said they actively use their broadband at home for four hours or more each day, while 70 per cent believe services must greatly improve to allow people to work from anywhere.

Northern Ireland and the Southwest expected the largest increases in broadband usage, with 64 per cent and 54 per cent of their workforces saying they expect usage to stay the same or increase, respectively.

Furthermore, the research found that 67 per cent of UK respondents would like to see policymakers accelerate plans to ensure high-speed and reliable internet is available to everyone.

The research also found that many UK workers are prepared to make investments of their own to improve connectivity, with more than one in three - 36 per cent - planning to upgrade their Internet service in the next 12 months.

A further 15 per cent of respondents would upgrade but claim it’s too expensive according to the research.

In addition, 55 per cent of the respondents said they think broadband should be free in the UK, and 60 per cent suggested access to affordable yet reliable connectivity is set to become a major issue throughout the population.
