SpaceX sends 143 satellites into space in record breaking launch

A SpaceX rocket has launched 143 satilities into space, hitting a new record for the most spaceships sent to space in a single mission.

The launch is part of SpaceX’s SmallSat Rideshare Programme, designed to give smaller satellite operators affordable access to space.

The aerospace company, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, launched the Falcon 9 rocket out of Florida at the weekend.

The day before the launch, Musk wrote on Twitter: “Launching many small satellites for a wide range of customers tomorrow. Excited about offering low-cost access to orbit for small companies!”

The aerospace business has already launched over 800 satellites used to deliver the internet across the globe, a $10 billion investment it estimates could generate $30 billion annually to help fund Musk’s interplanetary rocket program, called Starship, Reuters said.
