SpaceX raises $1.9bn in new funding

SpaceX has raised $1.9 billion in new funding, according to a regulatory filing.

The largest single fundraising round to date for Elon Musk's rocket company gives it an equity value of $46 billion after the transaction, according to Bloomberg reporting.

No further details on new financial backers was made available at this stage.

The investment comes as SpaceX races to build its Starlink satellite constellation to offer broadband internet commercially by the end of this year. The company launched its 11th batch of satellites this week, making more than 600 satellites now in low-Earth orbit.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule also recently completed its first two-month mission carrying astronauts for NASA, with plans to start routine crewed missions to the International Space Station in late October.
