Singapore launches draft GenAI framework

The AI Verify Foundation (AIVF) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have developed a draft framework for the use of generative AI (GenAI) in Singapore.

The Model AI Governance Framework expands on an existing framework that covers traditional AI which was produced in 2020.

The organisations said the new framework will address the issues and risks that come with GenAI and allow the safe use of the technology whilst allowing room for further development.

The new framework draws on findings from ongoing tests conducted within the GenAI evaluation sandbox that IMDA and AI Verify Foundation launched in June 2023 to let organisations test use cases and evaluate AI technology.

The proposals in the draft framework include tapping privacy-enhancing technologies to enable data to be used in the development of AI models whilst protecting data privacy and implementing processes for reporting and remediating AI safety incidents.

“Generative AI has significant transformative potential - above and beyond what traditional AI has been able to achieve but this also comes with risks,” the organisations said. “While it remains a dynamically developing space, there is growing global consensus that consistent principles are needed to create a trusted environment - one that enables end-users to use AI confidently and safely, while allowing space for cutting-edge innovation.”
