Ocado Group has revealed plans to construct a new robotic warehouse in Parets del Vallès, Catalonia, marking an expansion of its partnership with Spanish supermarket chain Bon Preu.
The new customer fulfilment centre will enhance Bon Preu's online operations by offering increased product variety and improved order accuracy.
The facility will incorporate Ocado's robotic automation and reimagined technologies to increase operational efficiency while reducing costs. This will enable the retailer to handle substantial online order volumes while enhancing customer experience.
Ocado ReImagined comprises a suite of innovations designed to streamline online grocery fulfilment. Its features include robotic systems for loading customer orders into delivery frames and a virtual distribution centre solution that allows smaller fulfilment sites to maintain complete product ranges while ensuring rapid delivery.
The partnership between the retailers began in 2017 when Bon Preu first implemented Ocado's in-store fulfilment technology to improve its online shopping service in 2018. Since launching online operations that year, Bon Preu has achieved significant growth, becoming Spain's most popular online grocery service in 2024 according to consumer organisation OCU.
Gregor Ulitzka, Europe president at Ocado Solutions, said: "We look forward to continuing to work together to deliver unbeatable online experiences for customers in Catalonia."
Anna Font i Tanyà, commercial director at Bon Preu Group, added: "We remain committed to improving our product range, delivery punctuality and order quality through our close partnership with Ocado."
