Ocado to supply automation across Kroger's warehouse network

Ocado will roll out its automated technologies across Kroger's customer fulfilment centre (CFC) network.

The company announced on Monday that the US grocery retailer has plans to implement tech features from its 'Re:imagined' concept, a series of changes and innovations to the technology powering the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), across multiple CFCs in its live network, as well as future CFCs.

The technologies include proprietary Ocado technology, such as its On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP) and Automated Frameload (AFL.)

The move marks an expansion of Kroger's existing partnership between the two companies, after having already launched robotic warehouses in the US.

It comes after Ocado recently announced plans to build a new robotic warehouse for Japanese retail giant Aeon, expanding its existing presence and services in Japan.

"We are delivering a step-change in warehouse automation and new levels of efficiency to our partners as global supply chains are under significant pressure to manage higher volumes and greater complexity, as well as challenges in labour cost and availability," said Tim Steiner, chief executive, Ocado Group. "Today marks another exciting milestone in our partnership with Kroger."

Last week, Ocado's financial results demonstrated a significant reduction in its losses thanks to continued investment in the company's tech arm.

According to its latest half-year report, Ocado’s Technology Solutions business continues to show strong financial progress, with revenue growth steadily rising to 21.8 per cent.
