NHS App will include vaccine passport from next week

Brits will be able to access their covid-19 vaccination status for travel via the NHS App from 17 May.

UK citizens without access to a smartphone will be able to call the NHS Helpline to request a letter outlining their vaccination status.

The government has recommended that people register with the NHS App before booking international travel at least 2 weeks before departure date and once they have had a full course of vaccinations.

The platform can already be used get advice about coronavirus, order repeat prescriptions, book appointments, get health advice, view medical records, register organ donation decisions, find out how the NHS uses data, and to view NHS numbers.

The app won’t show coronavirus test results but the NHS is planning to include this in future.

The government said that as there are not many countries accepting proof of vaccination, for the time being most people will still need to follow other rules when travelling abroad – like getting a negative pre-departure test.
