London consumer tech firm Nothing raises $70m

London-based consumer technology company Nothing has raised $70 million in a Series B funding round.

The earphone manufacturer said it will use the capital for product development and to open a new London design hub, led by former Dyson design head Adam Bates.

Nothing launched its product, ear (1), a set of carbon-neutral wireless earbuds in August 2021, which it said has shipped over 400,000 units.

The company was launched by Swedish OnePlus founder Carl Pei in September 2020.

The funding round was co-led by EQT Ventures and C Ventures, and also included follow-on investors GV, previously known as Google Ventures, and Tony Fadell’s Future Shape.

The latest round brings the company’s total funding to date to $144 million.

The firms’ backers have previously included Reddit-founder Steve Huffman, Twitch-foudner Kevin Lin, and YouTube personality Casey Neistat.

“With this funding, we can now work on the next phase of our vision of a seamless digital future,” said Carl Pei, co-founder, and chief executive at Nothing.

Adrian Cheng, founder and chief executive of new world development at C Ventures, said: “Nothing is on a mission to break the hegemony of consumer tech giants and embark on an ambitious journey to challenge the status quo.”
