E-bike and scooter-hire company Lime has said it is changing its vehicles to stop vandals peeling off their QR codes.
Customers scan the QR code to hire a vehicle.
But users in London and New York have been complaining that many of the e-bikes no longer have QR codes.
According to a report by the BBC, Lime has now started sealing the QR codes behind a plastic layer.
It told the news broadcaster that its data revealed the codes were not being removed by Lime users hoping to keep a bike to themselves but by “antisocial non-riders.”
"We have clear steps in place to prevent QR code vandalism, including deploying protective covers on all vehicle codes,” said the company in a statement. "By creating a safe and reliable service in London, we are ensuring we have a long-term impact on improving congestion and air pollution in the city we love."
