Legoland launches ‘first’ checkout-free store at a European theme park

A coffee shop and convenience store at Legoland Windsor is “Europe’s first” theme park to roll out checkout-free technology at one of its stores.

Customers at DUPLO Coffee Co enter with a credit card or mobile wallet, select the items they want, and are automatically billed as they exit the store.

Aramark UK, which owns the store, said that the service eliminates friction from the shopping experience and gives families extra time to enjoy the park as there is no need to wait in checkout lines or scan purchases.

Aramark UK has partnered with the cashless platform provider Zippin to implement the technology. The company added that the service allows staff to serve more guests in less time and encourages potential shoppers who may have been put off by long queues.

“The adoption of this autonomous approach helps meet the needs of guests who want to make the most of their visit to the theme park,” said Helen Milligan-Smith, chief executive of Aramark UK. “Providing flexible food and drink options with ease and efficiency means guests can do just that - focus on making memories with their loved ones across Legoland Windsor Resort.”
