Honeywell partners with Google to drive AI integration across industrial sector

Honeywell has partnered with Google Cloud as part of plans to boost the integration of AI in the industrial sector.

As part of the move, the manufacturing and technology business is integrating Google’s Gemini and Vertex AI with Honeywell Forge’s data set.

Honeywell Forge is an IoT platform for industrial companies that uses machine learning models. It aims to build performance data and unify data across different industries, including healthcare, energy, manufacturing and aerospace.

With the integration of Google Cloud AI powered solutions, Honeywell plans to expand and strengthen its data services and insights across a larger set of use cases, with a particular focus on reducing maintenance costs and increasing operational productivity.

Honeywell said that AI could help to alleviate the labour and skills shortage in the industrial sector which has been exacerbated by mass retirement of baby boomer workers.

The first GoogleAI enhanced solutions will be available in 2025 and will include AI-powered agents able to automate tasks and reduce project design cycles.

Other agents will use Google’s large language models (LLMs) to more effectively resolve maintenance issues, with users able to interact with them through multimodality capabilities. These agents will use various data types such as images, videos and sensor readings.

Cybersecurity features such as Google Threat Intelligence will also be integrated within Honeywell cybersecurity products to boost its fraud detection capabilities.

"The path to autonomy requires assets working harder, people working smarter and processes working more efficiently," said Vimal Kapur, chairman and chief executive of Honeywell. "By combining Google Cloud's AI technology with our deep domain expertise – including valuable data on our Honeywell Forge platform – customers will receive unparalleled, actionable insights bridging the physical and digital worlds to accelerate autonomous operations, a key driver of Honeywell's growth."

Thomas Kurian, chief executive of Google Cloud, said that with Gemini and Vertex AI, combined with Honeywell's industrial data and expertise, the partnership is creating “new opportunities to optimise processes, empower workforces and drive meaningful business outcomes for industrial organisations worldwide.”
