Digital committee launches inquiry into impacts of ML and virtual reality

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee has launched an inquiry into the impacts of new technologies like machine learning and virtual reality.

The inquiry focusses on the effects of these new technologies on the UK’s creative industries over the next five to 10 years.

The Committee said it will also look at the changes needed to make sure the skills and talent pipeline can deliver what is needed for the sector to thrive.

“The UK is recognised as a global leader in the creative economy,” said chair of the committee, Baroness Stowell of Beeston. “The sector is a key driver of our economic growth, and delivers huge value to us as a nation.

“But there are major changes coming. We need to understand these challenges better, and plan ahead to ensure the UK has the talent and skills pipeline we need for the creative sector to thrive in the future marketplace."
