Cisco ‘makes $20bn offer’ for Splunk

Cisco Systems made a bid for US software firm Splunk worth over $20 billion, according to sources reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Splunk, founded in 2003, provides software which helps firms search, monitor, and analyse machine-generated data.

The San Francisco-based company reported over $2.36 billion in revenue for its 2020 financial year.

The newspaper’s sources said the companies are not currently in active talks and that the offer was made recently.

The deal, if confirmed, would be Cisco’s largest acquisition ever.

The past year has been an active one in terms of mergers and acquisitions in the software market. In January, it was reported that remote access software provider Citrix was nearing a deal to be acquired for around $13 billion by private equity.
