Aldi Süd to overhaul IT systems as part of digital transformation

Aldi Süd has announced it will overhaul its IT infrastructure and increase automation as part of wider digital transformation strategy.

To implement the technology the retailer has extended its partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Through the partnership, Aldi Süd will deploy cloud operations technology to improve efficiency across the 11 countries it operates in, including the UK, Australia, Slovenia and Hungary.

The grocery retailer said the move will enhance its cyber resilience and boost its operational efficiency, as well as enable it to integrate legacy and modern systems.

The digital transformation aims to lower costs and improve the customer experience.

Once the transformation is finished, Aldi Süd said it will provide the groundwork for adaptive, future-ready retail operations across its global markets, resulting in a faster time to market for
digital products.

“This partnership ensures that Aldi South is well positioned to respond with agility to the evolving demands of global retail,” said Daniel Koch, international technology officer, ALDI DX. “Together, we will modernise infrastructure, drive automation, and deliver improved outcomes for our business and customers worldwide.”

Originally owned by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht, the siblings decided to split Aldi into two sperate entities in 1960 while still trading under the Aldi brand name.

Aldi Süd operates stores in 11 countries including the UK, Italy and Switzerland while Aldi Nord owns shops in France, Spain and Poland.

A year ago, Aldi Süd launched the Aldi DX brand to oversee digital initiatives in over 7,300 of its stores around the world.

The department, previously known as Aldi Süd IT, has overseen the introduction of digital price tags in stores which display prices and product information digitally in real time.

Earlier this month, Morrisons announced that it had also expanded its decade-long partnership with TCS in a bid to roll out new digital products at speed and accelerate its digital transformation with AI technology.

As part of the move, the supermarket will align operations across areas including retail, e-commerce and marketing to increase efficiency, as well as overhaul its existing loyalty scheme.

The partnership will give the retailer access to an end-to-end engineering service, including application design development, testing, and maintenance services to modernise Morrison’s legacy platforms.
