AI start-up Faculty has won an NHS contract to help predict patients’ future requirements.
The London-based firm will work with NHS England and NHS Improvement to build on top of the Early Warning System (EWS) the NHS created during the pandemic.
Faculty will draw from data such as COVID-19 test figures, 111 calls, and mobility data to make its predictions and will utilise Bayesian hierarchical modelling.
The London-based firm was founded in 2014, by current chief executive Marc Warner, current chief people officer Angie Ma, and Daniel James Hulme who departed from the company in 2016.
In 2020, Faculty was given a £2.3 million contract by NHSX to support the NHS Covid-19 data store.
The news comes after Faculty raised a $10.5 million Series A funding round in December 2019, led by Local Globe, GMG Ventures, and Estonian Skype founder Jaan Tallinn.
The funding round gave Faculty a valuation of around $100 million.
Controversy has dogged data related NHS contracts over the past year; the NHS is currently facing legal action from media platform openDemocracy over its contract with US data analytics firm Palantir on lobbying allegations.
