60% of employees view AI ‘as a coworker’

60 per cent of employees view AI as a coworker and not a threat to their jobs, according to a new report from MIT Sloan Management Review and Boston Consulting Group.

The report surveyed 1,741 managers in around 100 countries and 20 industries on the use of AI on at work. It found that employees who use AI are around six times more likely to see significant financial benefits from the technology than workplaces where employees do not value AI.

According to the report, AI is so embedded in the workplace that many employees do not realise that they are using it. 66 per cent of workers said they did not use AI or only used it minimally. However when told that AI is used in software such as calendar schedulers, 43 per cent of those surveyed said they regularly or sometimes use AI.

Just eight per cent of workers are less satisfied with their job because of AI, the report found.

Additionally, 56 per cent of those surveyed said AI had improved interaction with their team members while 47 per cent of employees said AI had improved the relationship with their managers.
