Google Maps gets real-time updates

The Google Maps service is getting two new types of notification, with the app giving delivering live updates, and the ability to lock the screen notifications so that users will not have to unlock the phone and consult the Maps app each time new directions are needed.

Google Maps is widely used, but is seen as lacking some of the features of rival systems such as Citymapper that offer more statistical information on journey times. Google has not officially given an update date yet , but it is expected it will launch soon.
