Gartner sees chief data officers now expected to drive revenue

Chief data officers are now expected to help drive revenues, according to a new report from Gartner, as opposed to manage and maintain data.

The Gartner Chief Data Officer Survey of 287 chief data officers shows that the position is being expanded, but art the price of the core function moving to revenue generation. Globally the budget allocated to data is increasing too, to USD8m.

Regulatory compliance, such as GDPR, is also lifting budget and recruitment, ang Gartner predicts that by 2021, CDOs will have a function alongside IT, business operations, HR and finance in the majority of large organisations.
