Broadcom has offered $121 billion as its final bid to buy Qualcomm, the US semiconductor giant.
In a period of consolidation in tech, and especially the wireless technology equipment sector, Qualcomm is under pressure to create a robust business strategy or sell.
Qualcomm is highly linked to the Apple, and reports that the iPhone maker might switch to Intel have helps pile the pressure on.
Broadcom, founded in 1991, has grown to be a major ‘fabless company’ – that is it generally outsources its actual fabrication to plant, often in Asia. Qualcomm holds many useful patents and IP, which make the company an attractive option for Broadcom.
