Uber is a transport company
Written by Mark Evans
Uber has been officially categorised as a transport company by European Court of Justice (ECJ).
The company had wanted to be seen as an information service, but following a case in Spain, where Uber was told it had to follow local rules for taxis, it will now need to obey rules in each jurisdiction as a taxi service. The decision could resonate across several mobile services.
Indeed, as courts attempt to grapple with modern technology, the decision could have implications on a range of current internet=based services, from delivery services to publishing.
